I LOVE the idea and general functionality of the tool -- have only used the Media Review option so far, and generally it is great. I am facing several key issues, though:
(1) Commenting on a Video or PDF or Image is not nested; it doesn't go several levels deep. You can only keep commenting on the original first comment-post.
(2) The timecode-sorting of all the comments is only possible from end-to-start. I would really want to see a Start-to-End sort, so it follows the video (makes much more logical sense, to me).
(3) and this one is HUGE... a lot of the ICON elements are misaligned. I click on the EDIT icon (next to the Delete icon), and instead of editing, it deletes the entire comment. I click on Reply, and instead it opens the EDIT. etc... This has happened many times now, both in the side-by-side Video-Comments view and in the Video followed by Comments (underneath) view... This really needs to get sorted...
If some of the above gets solved (and possibly more - I have played with the tool for only a few hours so far), then it is an amazingly powerful tool, similar to Frame.io which I have used extensively before.
Hope that the tool will keep improving!
Best wishes to Chipper and the team,
Meindert
I just played around in this new Appsumo purchase and was very impressed by it's very simple and intuitive design. It has everything a freelancer but for sure also other types of companies could dream of and has all the functionalities needed to run the business. It is not heavily bloated with millions of unneccessary things like in some other tools which lead to the user or customer being overwhelmed. Whelm is my favorite Appsumo purchase in the last 12 months and I buy a lot on Appsumo. Also the pricing is very attractive and the limits very generous. I am surprised it only got 9 reviews and will leave Appsumo soon. In opinion it should stay longer on Appsumo so that other Sumolings can also find it. 1000 hot tacos and a big THANK YOU to the Whelm team and Appsumo for bringing this awesome deal here.
This tool is fantastic! It's like having a whole bunch of freelancer tools rolled into one. Whelm simplifies everything you need in one convenient place.
The media review tool is great – really user-friendly, and I can see myself using it for all sorts of tasks.
And the contract library? It's a real time-saver. I can see it being really helpful for freelancers like us.
Overall, I'd say it's a solid investment. Plus, since they're still pretty new, I'm sure they'll keep improving it over time.
First of all I would like to offer an apology to the founder Chipper. As he pointed out after my oversight on the percentage of his charges for each tier. These charges were already including the stripe charges and all they were saying was hey we would like to make at least 1% ourselves.
Okay, now back to the Whelm tool. (I can never get over these tool names) but I digress. I took the tool out for a test drive and found it to be better than I expected. It was sturdy and appeared to have some thought behind it. It does exactly what it says it does. Helps freelancers out in a major way. I would image a freelancer now having things stored in a google drive with folders. Sure, a freelancer may have a portal of some sort to house clients, but I can assure you that portal does not have both invoicing and the ability to sign a contract in it. I have to admit I have a tool similar to this tool where it even gives me a pipeline of activity to include a phone app that notifies me when a contract is signed. Unfortunately that tool does not give me the contract and agreement range that Whelm does. I was very impressed. This is a solid tool and I put it together with a few other tools to make a nice Agency solution out of it. You can find that here

+Pros
+ has a nice onboarding process
+Contracts, agreements, and the ability to edit them is down right fire!
+The ability to edit working projects is a very nice touch.
+Library of resources was a welcomed addition as well.
-Cons
- I would like to see the ability for the client to send over assets for me to start working on or looking over
- I would like to see more payment gateways
- I would like to see the ability to get clients out and into my CRM or send information via webhooks or API
- I do not like the fact that I am locked into a virtual “Custom Appsumo Plan” I have too many experiences to know that this could be risky.
Overall not the best I have seen, but it darn well is close and is a freelancers dream for sure. This tool should be looked at for any solo or small business. I hope some of the new things that come to this tool would include sumolings as this tool is missing a few pieces to make it perfect.
If you're a working freelancer, TRY THIS TOOL. It's your project management, invoicing, client feedback, and contract software in one. I really love that clients can add comments and draw on the screen to leave feedback on all kinds of media files. And the ability for clients to securely pay me with credit, debit, or bank transfer in multiple currencies is a game changer. Love it so far, can't wait to see what else it can do!
I recently got Whelm and so far I'm really liking it! Definitely going to incorporate this into my main tech stack moving forward. I like the simplicity and also how easy it is to become efficient with it.
I came for the custom invoices and digital payments. I stayed for the eSign docs, project management! And didn't even know how helpful the file transfer feature would be with sending social clips I create for clients.
Will definitely be recommending to my freelancing friends and communities.
Awesome CRM, it’s saved me a bunch of time. I’m able to do a variety of my tasks in just one place.
I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far. Can’t beat it for the price.
Whelm is crazy good value, this is coming from someone who used HoneyBook for years (which was very expensive). I can do almost everything on this app for a fraction of the price. Well worth the investment for any photographer/videographer
Seems like a solid product so far.
Here's what I've liked:
- The invoice builder works well.
- The contract templates are pretty solid (I'm not a lawyer, but they look pretty thorough to me).
- The frame io dupe is really good. Works well. Has most of the same features as frame.
- Lots of discounts for other tools I use, which is a nice touch I didn't expect.
Here's what I'd like to see improved:
- A couple of pages load a bit slowly. Not the whole app, just a couple pages.
- The UI/UX could be better. It's not bad, by any means. But it could be somewhat improved. I expect that will happen as the product grows.
Overall, well done to the Whelm team. I look forward to seeing this platform grow over time. Glad I bought.
